WWII Lesson Plan for 3/14/14
Today you need to examine how and why World War II comes to an end. To start with you will need to complete the worksheet about the end of the war conferences. Use the internet to research the questions for each conference. Please complete this assignment electronically and submit it through Google Drive titled "LASTNAME WWII ASSIGNMENT"

The second part of today's assignment is to view and analyze images and documents surrounding the dropping of the first atomic bombs. You will add to the Google Doc you started above.
Begin by exploring a few websites; the AtomicBombMuseum website and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Musuem (warning: some are very graphic).
1.Pick one of the websites and determine who are the authors and what is their purpose for this web site?

Especially revealing are the accounts of survivors, found on the websites above, and the account of Colonel Paul Tibbets, commander of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the first atomic weapon on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, FOUND HERE.
After researching these accounts, add the answers to these questions to your Google Doc.
2. How did Tibbets and others on the Enola Gay feel when they witnessed the explosion?
3. What did those whose survived report?
4. What lessons from the bombing do these survivors wish to impart to us?

5. Was Truman justified in using two weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
6. What were the military reasons for the decision?
7. Were there moral issues at stake and what were they?
