The Renaissance: A Webquest on the Time Period and Its Art
General Directions
- This webquest is dedicated to the Art of the Renaissance time period. Your job will be to create a "Renaissance Portfolio", complete with descriptions and critiques of Renaissance artists and their works.
- We will only be working on this in class on Wednesday, December 9th. That means you will completing anything you don't finish in class at home.
- This project will be due on Monday, December 14th at the start of your hour.
- This project is worth 40 points, so I recommend you take it very seriously. The rubric for this project can be found below.

Step One: The Time Period - DUE AT THE START OF THURSDAY'S CLASS
The first section of the webquest involves research into the Renaissance period. Please answer the following questions in a Google Doc or on a sheet of lined paper.
Step Two: Choose Your Artist
Please choose one of the artists listed below. The portfolio should include the following:
Find a way to creatively display all works by the artist, so the viewing public will be impressed. The key to this assignment is not only to present information, but to do so aesthetically. Also remember that paragraphs have at least 5 sentences.

- How did the time period come about? You should have no less than three causes/reasons for the Renaissance.
- In what area of the world did the movement begin? Why does it begin here?
- Who were at least five major people involved with the time period? What are their major accomplishments.
- What were at least five major events took place that shaped the time period? The events you chose should be specific to the Renaissance not just from the correct time period.
- What time period did the Renaissance give way to? How did the Renaissance inspire future time periods?
Step Two: Choose Your Artist
Please choose one of the artists listed below. The portfolio should include the following:
- Any background information, including place of birth, years active, major influences, and any other historical references. (Biography: 2-3 paragraphs, typed.)
- A description of the artist's style, showing how this artist's work is valuable both aesthetically as well as how it represents the Renaissance. (1 paragraph, typed).
- A portfolio showing photographs of at least 10 works, with an explanation of each (include title, medium, year produced, and a description of the subject)
- One paragraph, typed, remarking on the impact of the artist on both the artistic as well as the social culture of the time
